For more information on teaching areas (endorsements), please go to this website

Along the left side, click on Teaching Areas...go down this page until you see an area of endorsement that might closely fit your area in which you wish to teach. The third page of these documents lists the content area courses that are needed. You would have the adviser for that area evaluate your transcript to see which content area courses you would need for licensure. (There is an adviser(s) for each content area that would look at transcripts and help determine which content courses you need to take. Start by calling the adviser(s) listed on the website here, to see which content area courses you will need.)

Teacher Authorization Program (TAP)

Undergraduate Teacher Licensure

Undergraduate students applying for admission to the Teacher Licensure Program must be seeking a bachelor’s degree at CSU in a major approved for educator licensing. Candidates will earn a bachelor’s degree in their content area (B.A., B.S., or B.M.) in addition to an institutional recommendation for a teaching license in their content area.

The program is designed to complement degree programs rather than add to them so that the student can complete their Colorado State experience in 4 years.

The Educator Licensing Program at Colorado State offers these teaching endorsement areas for undergraduate students:

Pre-K – Grade 3

  • Early Childhood Education

Kindergarten – Grade 12

  • Art
  • Foreign Languages

  • Business Education
  • Consumer and Family Studies

  • Social Studies
  • Technology Education
  • Trade and Industry Education

Undergraduate students will meet with a content area advisor to evaluate their transcript to confirm which content area courses are needed for licensure. Information regarding content advisors.

If you have questions for the ECE and Undergraduate licensure, please contact the Teacher Licensure Office by e-mail teachinfo@cahs.colostate.edu or by phone 970.491.5292.

K-12 and Secondary Teaching Programs

The Teacher Licensure Program model for the secondary and K-12 teaching areas is below. The four-phase program was implemented to meet Colorado, NCATE, and other reform movements in teacher education. The implementation of the new Performance Based Standards for Colorado Teachers (CDE-2000) are evident throughout the new program design. NOTE: The courses listed apply to the Secondary and K-12 Programs. Courses for Early Childhood Education will vary from this listing. Information about these programs may be found by clicking on the specific program title.

Early Childhood Education Program

Candidates completing this professional Early Childhood Education (ECE) program are licensed in grades pre-kindergarten through third (ages 0-8) in Colorado. The ECE model is similar to the secondary and K-12 model; however, candidates enroll in a different set of education courses in Phase II and III for ECE. Field experiences are also organized in the P-3rd grade settings. Finally, admission to the ECE program is required before enrollment in Phase I education courses.
